Prepare For The Packing Process Associated With Your Move

If a moving crew is solely responsible for packing the possessions in your home prior to you moving to a new residence, you may be worried about your possessions being mixed together or labeled incorrectly. You can keep the packing process organized by doing some legwork prior to the arrival of the movers.

Sort And Dispose

Envision yourself moving into your new residence and being able to unpack items and place them inside of each room methodically. This can actually occur if you make sure that you aren't going to be bringing along items that are broken or no longer needed. It may seem like an intimidating task, but it is necessary to look through everything that you own so that you can separate possessions into piles.

One pile should contain the items that you are going to have the movers pack, and the other pile should contain the items that you would like to dispose of. Disposing of your possessions does not necessarily mean you need to toss everything into a trashcan. If the items are salvageable and you know someone who would appreciate them, then, by all means, reach out to this person and offer the things to them.

Create A List And Prepare The Labels

Things can get pretty hectic once the packing process is underway. Take the time beforehand to write a list that includes how you would like specific items to be packed and which room the items will go in once they have been transported to your new residence. Use a permanent marker to write descriptions on large labels that will be secured to the outside of boxes or bins.

Make a copy of the list and give the copy and the labels to the moving crew. Keep the other copy with your important paperwork. Before the moving crew begins to pack your items, go over the list with the individuals so that they are familiar with how you would like your possessions to be packed and labeled.

By verbalizing your wishes, you will reinforce what your written list contains so that the desired packing and labeling steps won't be overlooked. If you have several fragile items that are going to be moved, ask the moving crew if they would pack those items first so that none of your keepsakes and valuables are at risk of breaking while the other possessions are being packed.
